Dear Friends of the American Czestochowa Shrine,
For the farmer, August marks the end of hard work cultivating the land. It’s a time to gather crops and to give thanks for the harvest. For many of us, August marks the end of summer. It’s a time when summer trips and vacations come to an end and we return home to our regular daily lives. In a way it is our harvest time as well. We gather our thoughts and memories of the past month and we give thanks for the bounty that God has given us.
For centuries, people all over the world have made pilgrimages to various shrines to give thanks to God for the harvest, for answered prayers or to ask God for help. A walking pilgrimage is one of the oldest forms of prayer. During the month of August, hundreds of thousand of pilgrims travel on foot to Our Lady’s Shrine at Jasna Góra in Poland. This year marks the 24th year of the annual walking pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown PA. We invite you to join us on this journey August 10-14. "Let us set out in the footsteps of Christ!" (John Paul II)
